Hanson Pipe & Precast announced the purchase of the assets of Sherman Industries Inc. Prestressed Concrete Division, a Pelham, Ala.-based manufacturer of prestressed bridge girders, precast bridge components, short-span rural bridge systems and various other heavy structural precast products. Acquisition of the facility, a 40-acre complex, expands Hanson Pipe & Precast’s capacity in the Southeast by providing bridge construction products to projects throughout the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi.
“This acquisition increases our commitment to customers by expanding our product line to include prestress bridge offerings,” said Joan Blecha, Southeast regional president for Hanson. “The deal also brings us closer to one of our marketing objectives to be the industry leader of residential, highway and commercial concrete construction components in the Southeast.”
“Expanding our presence in Alabama provides us with another location to reach customers in the area’s growing communities and reinforces Hanson’s commitment to growing its current and prospective manufactured concrete products business,” Blecha said.
The Pelham Facility will be part of Hanson Pipe & Precast’s Southeast region, which is headquartered in Green Cove Springs, Fla., servicing Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. More than 30 facilities throughout the Southeast region produce several products, including those used for community and roadway development such as reinforced concrete pipe, drainage structures, modular bridges and other precast concrete product.
