Hanson Pipe & Precast, a division of Hanson PLC, one of the world’s leading heavy building materials companies, today announced its plans to build a new facility on its Chesapeake, Va. site. The 62,000-square-foot expansion will help Hanson meet growing demands for infrastructure products in the area, which Hanson currently serves out of seven facilities in the state.
The $16.9 million expansion will be a state-of-the-art, fully automated facility expected to open in December 2007. Several employees transferred from the existing facility will produce circular and elliptical reinforced concrete pipe ranging in diameters from 12 inches to 72 inches.
“We are expanding in Chesapeake to meet growing demand for products that are in alignment with the environmentally sensitive requirements of this area,” said Eric Wheeler, Northeast region president for Hanson Pipe & Precast. “The newer technology that will come with expansion only improves the quality of an already outstanding product.”
Chesapeake is part of Hanson’s Northeast operating region based in Columbus, Ohio and will be managed through Don Wagner, vice president of Virginia/North Carolina. The Northeast region’s 26 facilities produce several products, including those used for community and roadway development, such as reinforced concrete pipe, drainage structures, noise barriers, bridge products, the HansonArch, QuickSpan and precast vaults.
