| Acquisition Expands Capacity and Reach in Southwest |
| September 21, 2006 Hanson Pipe & Precast today announced the purchase of substantially all the assets of Sorden’s Cast-Crete Inc., a Washington, Utah-based manufacturer of manholes, septic tanks and custom boxes. The deal expands Hanson’s capacity and reach in fast-growing Western states such as Arizona, Nevada and Utah. “This first Utah plant expands our presence in the Southwest and provides a central location to reach customers in growing communities and cities such as Las Vegas and St. George, Utah,” said Eric Wheeler, Hanson’s Western region president. “This acquisition reinforces our commitment to growing Hanson’s precast business.” Sorden’s Cast-Crete was founded in 1976 as a manufacturer of septic tanks by Larry Sorden. In 1994, a 50 percent stake in the company was purchased by Bob Riding, who will stay on as Utah plant manager. Substantially all of Sorden’s 56 employees will retain employment and become members of the Hanson family. “I am so pleased that a company with such a great reputation and history like Hanson has chosen our plant,” said Bob Riding, Utah plant manager. “I am proud to be staying on board during this exciting time, serving some of the fastest-growing communities in the nation.” About Hanson Pipe & Precast North America Originally founded to provide manufacturing of concrete pipe for sewer and culvert construction, Hanson Pipe & Precast North America has grown and prospered into an organization of more than 7,800 employees and 108 plants with products available throughout the U.S. To learn more about Hanson’s quality products, services and building technology, please visit www.hansonpipeandprecast.com.
